Sikhism is the world’s fifth-largest religion, founded in the late 15th century in Punjab, India, by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Sikhism emphasizes the oneness of God, the equality of all people, and the importance of service to humanity. It teaches that everyone, regardless of background, race, or gender, has the potential to connect with the Divine.
The core principles of Sikhism are:
• Naam Simran (Remembrance of God): Repeatedly remembering and meditating on God’s name brings spiritual enlightenment and peace.
• Seva (Selfless Service): Sikhs are encouraged to serve others, regardless of their social or economic status, embodying humility and compassion.
• Equality: Sikhism rejects any form of discrimination, especially caste, race, and gender, promoting universal equality.
• Honest Living and Sharing: Sikhs are encouraged to earn a livelihood honestly and share with others, especially through community meals, known as Langar.
The teachings of the ten Sikh Gurus, along with the Guru Granth Sahib (the holy scripture), form the foundation of Sikh faith and practice. The Guru Granth Sahib is regarded not just as a book but as the eternal Guru, offering wisdom and guidance for a meaningful life.
Sikhism is a religion of peace, and its followers, known as Sikhs, are encouraged to live in harmony with all people and respect the natural world. Through compassion, humility, and service, Sikhs aim to live a life aligned with the Divine and contribute positively to society.
